SKRAM
Three acrobatic performers try to keep standing – both literally and figuratively – while the floor under their feet is shifting. They constantly need to adapt to keep their balance. Running, tumbling, sliding they try to find their footing. They cling to each other, to a border, or a shoulder of an audience member. With the audience seated around the stage and in a bath of electrifying live music the performers try, in between the flying, sliding, falling and catching, to find their footing. Should they try to stay in control? Or is it better to learn how to stagger.
SKRAM is an ode to resilience and to the courage to falter, to take risks, to fail, fall and get up again. The performance recognizes a world that is constantly changing, both for adults and for children. A world in which people are balancing what they want with what they need, can and should do. SKRAM thus honours children’s agility and readiness to adapt time and again to new situations. Situations in which they can discover suprising skills. Like the beauty of failing, even if only briefly.

Hanne Vandersteene and Mahlu Mertens form the artistic core of the Grensgeval company. They both studied at the Maastricht Theatre Academy (the Netherlands). Hanne continued her studies at KASK Ghent and Mahlu obtained a PhD in English literature at Ghent University. They found a language for their imagination in the circus. With Grensgeval, they bring circus together with other art forms and inject it with a dose of anarchy, poetry and punk. Their widely accessible performances, such as “Plock!”, “KORROL” and “iRRooTTaa”, are physical, sensory and visual. A world in which the audience is right in the middle and at times even actively participates.
Jakob Lohmann is a (circus) performer and has been working with Grensgeval since graduating from Codarts Circus. He collaborated on the performances “Plock!” and “KORROL”. He is affiliated with the Profondo Rosso collective as a dramaturg and teaches acrobatic dance. In his own artistic work – which is a cross between circus, theatre and dance – Jakob likes to challenge the relationship between actor and spectator.
Gytha Parmentier is an actor, performer and dancer. She travelled the world with the performances “Wij/Zij” and “Show” (BRONKS) and won, among other things, the Vertebra Award for Best Actress (Fringe Festival UK). She works for various Belgian theatre companies, including hetpaleis, Ontroerend Goed, fABULEUS, Laika, playField and KOPERGIETERY (“Club Toulouse”). She has also appeared in television and dances extensively both on and off screen. She developed her skills in contemporary dance through workshops and performances at ‘Les Ballets C de la B’.
Elisabeth De Loore is a pianist, composer and theatre musician. Her recent work is situated at the intersection of classical music, theatre and sound art. Since graduating from the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp (B), she has been active in the performing arts. In recent years, she has worked with Toneelgroep Maastricht, Broder, NTGent, Victoria Deluxe and De Machienerie, among others. In 2026, she will compose the soundtrack for the film “Ik blijf bij je” (Pupkin).
