WEEKLY WORKSHOPS

Since the launch of KOPERGIETERY (then known as Speelteater Gent) in 1978, theatre workshops have been organised for children and young people aged 8 to 18. Today, these take the form of weekly theatre workshops and occasional holiday workshops, held both at our main building (*temporarily at Kopergietery Het Pand) and at Kopergietery Rabot.

Each season, around 150 children and young people work together in small groups under the guidance of theatre teachers, directors, musicians and/or choreographers. Each season, we also set up one or more projects, which sometimes develop into ‘fully-fledged’ touring productions. These projects vary in duration, structure, content and form, but they are all created under the guidance of experienced professionals.

In our workshops, we do not work according to a ‘method’ or an educational programme. Workshops are places of creation. Places where children and young people, together with a teacher/artist, get to work in a vibrant and enriching process. Mutual inspiration and the development of one’s own potential are what it’s all about, as well as gaining insights. Insights into what theatre can be, and into what is happening in the world.

We strive to organise our workshops to be as inclusive as possible. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to ask our workshop coordinators.

WHERE & WHEN

The weekly workshops take place at the KOPERGIETERY (temporarily at “Het Pand”, Onderbergen 1) on Wednesday afternoons or Saturday mornings.
The weekly Rabot workshops take place at KOPERGIETERY RABOT (Vlotstraat 22), on Tuesdays or Wednesdays after school. In the Rabot workshops, we work with children from the Rabot neighbourhood.

REGISTRATION

To register for the weekly workshops, your child must have attended at least one holiday workshop beforehand. Unfortunately, the weekly theatre workshops are currently full. If places become available, a child or young person who has taken part in a holiday workshop may move on to the weekly workshops. If your child is interested, it is important to let the workshop coordinators know so that your child can be added to the waiting list.

However, this is not a waiting list with numbers. We select participants based on age, profile and how they would fit into the existing groups. We therefore take the personalities of the children in the (existing) group as our starting point, and this helps determine the intake of new children.
